On September 11, 2023, the foreign principal, admissions office teachers and class teachers of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School jointly organized senior students to actively participate in the American College Fair.
On the day of the event, admissions officers from 30 top American universities gathered to welcome students from various schools in Shanghai, providing valuable networking opportunities for students to broaden their academic horizons, gain a deeper understanding and clarify their future study directions.
The event took place at the WLSA Shanghai School Baoshan Campus. Teachers and students from SHBS entered the gymnasium with enthusiasm, engaging in face-to-face conversations with admissions officers from 30 renowned American universities, actively seeking their 'dream school.' Admissions officers shared the distinctive attributes of each school, aiding students in gaining a deeper understanding of each school's unique qualities. The booths buzzed with activity as students and parents listened attentively and interacted with great enthusiasm.
A platform was created for students to talk face-to-face with admissions officers and learn about each university's academic programs, research opportunities, campus life, and admissions plans. In addition, the admissions officers patiently answered the questions raised by the students, shared with them the unique features of different universities, and provided valuable advice for students on individual differences.
This college fair and the admissions officers’ visit in China were initiated and organized by InitialView, with several international schools from various regions hosting the event. SHBS as one of the organizers, fully communicated with the admissions departments of the universities. The college fair not only broadens the students' horizons and gives them a deeper understanding of the schools, but also deeply inspires the students' thinking about further studies and provides them with an opportunity to grow.
After the college fair in Shanghai, Principal Chris traveled to Dongguan to participate in the East Meets West conference, held in conjunction with InitialView, from the 14th - 16th of September. Along with participating in numerous sessions and engaging admissions representatives from leading colleges, Chris moderated a panel discussion on the impact of the US Supreme Court’s decision limiting the use of race and admissions, and exploring the potential impacts this might have for students from China. Joined by colleagues from Amherst College, the University of Rochester, and Tulane University, college counselors from around China discussed how best to translate US institutional priorities related to diversity in ways that resonate with students in China.
SHBS is proud to engage thoroughly in professional opportunities that build our presence in the world of college admissions, and that highlight the strength and values or our school. We believe that by playing a leading role in these conversations, our community will gain recognition for the quality and thoughtfulness of the education we offer, and the best practices used in advising students in their college search process.
