At SHBS, the meaning of a course is not confined to the transfer of textbook knowledge within a classroom. It also encompasses the flurry of brushes and colors in art studios, the sweat shed in gymnasiums and on sports fields, the dancing musical notes in recording studios, the footsteps leading to the streets and alleys of the city, the distant fields of the countryside, the workshops and laboratories of enterprises, and the experience of global travel and enrichment.
Courses should not be like cold, rigid frames constructing static knowledge, but rather like colorful silk threads, weaving the most beautiful dreams for children.
Core Academics
Choose suitable courses from 100+ options.
As a school authorized by the College Board and the Cambridge University Examination Board, we offer AP and A-Level courses as core curriculum, supplemented by a large number of basic subject courses (including AP or A-Level preparatory courses) and advanced courses (continuing advancement after AP or A-Level). Students graduate by earning enough credits in the core academic courses.
The school implements a deep layered class system and elective system. More than 80% of the school's courses do not specify which grade they must be studied in. Instead, students choose the difficulty and pace of each course based on their interests and strengths. For example, English courses are divided into at least 9 levels, and there is always a level suitable for the child's English level. The school does not stipulate how many AP or A-Level courses must be studied before graduation - it is all determined according to the specific circumstances of each child.
