On March 25th, the SHBS Career Exploration event moved into the second phase, featuring the "Face-to-Face with Industry Experts" session. 18 top experts and professionals from various fields were invited to the school to share and exchange their insights on campus.

The efficient invitation process for the guests was made possible through close collaboration between the school and the community. Many of the guests were parents of current students or were recommended by parents, providing students with a rare opportunity for genuine face-to-face interaction with industry leaders.

The direct interaction greatly enriched students' understanding of different careers and ignited their enthusiasm for exploring and planning their future career paths. Let's hear about the achievements from our student reporters!

— 顾同学Kevin(G11)

Ms. Chen, a senior family education and psychological counselor with extensive experience and profound insights, as well as the author of The Full-time Mom's Guide delivered a lecture. She serves as a family education counselor at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is also a mental health consultant at the Beijing Kanghe Public Welfare Foundation, with over 10,000 hours of cumulative psychological counseling practice. In her lecture, she delved into the influence of psychology on human behavior and decision-making, highlighting how gaming companies use psychological knowledge to create dependencies on games and smartphones, demonstrating the practical applications of psychology in daily life. She also shared insights on the employment prospects and common misconceptions in the field of psychology, pointing out that psychology graduates can find job opportunities in various fields such as business, counseling, and music therapy. At the same time, she warned against several misconceptions, such as assuming that studying psychology directly leads to practicing psychological counseling or considering psychology as a high-income industry. Finally, she emphasized that the most crucial aspects of a career in psychology are having an altruistic mindset, sensitivity, and humility.

Game Design

— 宋同学Cissy(G9)

Today's guest for the game design lecture was Mr. Guo, the Public Affairs Manager of Shanghai Hawk Horn Network Technology. He not only possesses rich practical experience and a profound understanding of the gaming industry but has also been involved in managing over tens of millions of philanthropic project funds. In the lecture, Mr. Guo provided an in-depth discussion on the crucial role of game design in the game development process. Game design involves not only the creation of concepts, story-boarding, level design, and character development but also encompasses game mechanics and monetization strategies, among other aspects. He emphasized that the game industry is not limited to computer-related majors but encompasses various professional fields that can contribute to game development, breaking stereotypes people have about the industry. He mentioned that thoughtful game planning is the road map for the entire process from conception to launch for the development team. Such planning ensures that the game meets the preferences of the target audience, responds to market demands, and provides an immersive gaming experience. Effective game design requires comprehensive research, creative brainstorming, and team collaboration to transform game concepts into reality. Clearly defining goals, setting milestones, and establishing a timetable are essential for maintaining organization and focus throughout the development process. Through Mr. Guo's sharing, I learned that game design is crucial for creating successful and impactful games, directly determining whether a game can stand out in the competitive industry.

News Reporter

— 杨同学Lucky(G10)

Today I had the privilege of attending a industry-sharing lecture by Ms. He, the editorial board member and senior journalist of PengPai News. She shared her years of struggle in the news industry and her unique insights into its development, which greatly benefited me. I admire her professional experience. She has been engaged in journalism since 2004, weathering storms and accumulating rich experience. Her original intention was to pursue truth and convey value, and she has always maintained enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility for the news profession. This spirit has inspired me deeply.

During the lecture, Ms. He also introduced the innovative initiatives of PengPai News in recent years, such as the launch of 24-hour real-time breaking news coverage, as well as the newly developed technology section. Particularly noteworthy is the open blog of PengPai News, which provides users with a free and open platform for everyone to express their perspectives and insights. This openness and interactivity add more diverse perspectives to news reporting and promote the diversification and depth of news communication. Her sharing has given me a deeper understanding of the news industry. I realize that becoming a qualified journalist requires continuous learning and exploration, as well as a firm professional belief and a sense of responsibility towards society. I am moved by Ms. He's story and spirit, and I am also filled with anticipation for the blog and interactive section provided by PengPai News. I hope to share my voice on this platform, exchange ideas with others, and jointly explore social hot topics and issues.

Architectural Design

— 郑同学Winnie(G12)

Mr. Cao, an expert in the field of architectural design, has 30 years of professional experience in the architecture industry. Not only that, as a senior architect, he has participated in many major projects, such as Shanghai Costco, Jinan Natural Museum, Sanya Free Trade Port Tourism and Aviation Headquarters, and so on. In the lecture, Mr. Cao shared a lot about the architectural design industry with the students. He emphasized that "comprehension" is a very important part of his personal experience. He advised students to "invest in themselves", armed with knowledge, and fill themselves with experiences, bravely pursuing more comprehension. Mr. Cao also mentioned that an architect is a very ancient profession, and architects need to possess abilities that are more important than mere construction techniques, namely, creating and disseminating culture. In today's continuous development of artificial intelligence, architects should use technology as a tool to better serve the public. Finally, Mr. Cao reminded everyone that the future is unpredictable, but what people can do is to constantly create and build the future with their own hands.

Lawyer

— 刘同学Jiahe(G11)

Mr. Ye Lelei graduated from East China University of Political Science and Law with a bachelor's degree and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with a master's degree. He is proficient in trade and commercial-related laws.

In the lecture, he emphasized that any legal study should start from the following three points: firstly, solid mastery of the fundamental disciplines; secondly, the ability to analyze, defend, and integrate information; finally, language proficiency is crucial in a lawyer's work. Lawyers need to be proficient in language and writing, constantly keep up with the times, and adapt to new laws and regulations. This lecture has brought me a lot of reflections. I realize that law is not a single discipline, and comprehensive development is important in studying it. Only through comprehensive development can we better adapt to the needs of reality. I also understand the relationship between the real-time updates of the law and the ability to learn. Only through continuous learning can we keep up with the changes of the times. As students, we need to constantly learn, adapt to the changes of the times, and lay a solid foundation for our future career development.

Coffee

— 韩同学Brooks(G9)

Today I had the opportunity of attending a fascinating lecture by Ms. Gao on coffee. Ms. Gao, a graduate of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the founder of "U∞X Coffee", has over ten years of management and practical experience in the coffee industry. She shared her entrepreneurial journey, starting from a small abandoned room at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, to establishing points of sale in Huawei stores where customers could receive free coffee based on their receipts, and finally opening a shop in downtown Shanghai. Her shop attracted a large number of foreign customers, allowing them to taste the "flavor of home" even in a foreign land. Ms. Gao's story is not just about coffee; it is also about dreams and perseverance. She and her team have set a grand goal for themselves - to open one hundred stores. This goal reflects an important message: with a clear goal, continuous effort, and practice, any dream can be achieved. Ms. Gao's experiences and determination have inspired me immensely, making me believe that as long as I have a goal and persistently strive towards it, nothing is impossible.

Finance/Investment Field

— 曹同学Rina(G10)

During the Career Exploration Week, we invited Mr. Zhang, an expert with outstanding achievements in the fields of finance and investment, to speak to students who are interested in these areas. Mr. Zhang has extensive experience as a senior financial executive in both domestic and international companies. He began his career at one of the Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, and subsequently held positions such as Chief Financial Officer at Yunzhangfang, Finance Director at Daphne, and Vice President of Finance at CDP. During the lecture, Mr.Zhang introduced us to some basic information about finance and investment, such as the three categories of investors, the difference between CEOs and CFOs, and the types of professional service organizations in the market. Using his own experiences as examples, Mr. Zhang explained these complex and difficult-to-understand concepts in a simple and interesting manner. In the final Q&A session, he answered the questions raised by students one by one, and also pointed out that apart from learning abilities, good physical fitness is also an important capability and quality required in this industry. This lecture made me realize that finance and investment are not as glamorous as imagined, and the achievements obtained are directly proportional to the efforts invested behind them.

Short Video Operations

— 陈同学Jennifer(G10)

In today's lecture, Mr. Wen, a live streaming expert with 5 years of experience in Douyin operations, shared profound insights into the operation of short videos on Douyin. He explained the advantages of Douyin, the algorithm logic, and video monetization, emphasizing that Douyin is an important interactive platform, and the growth of traffic after video release depends on initial interactions. At the same time, he differentiated between video creators who pursue traffic and those who pursue monetization, providing targeted explanations. Through Mr. Wen's sharing, I realized that short videos are not only a source of entertainment but also a field full of opportunities for side businesses. This has sparked my desire to engage in short video creation in the future.

We sincerely thank all the guests for their candid and unreserved sharing, using their life wisdom to broaden students' knowledge and horizons, and planting seeds of inquiry and desire in the hearts of the students. We will continue to guide and nurture, helping students clarify their future directions. Additionally, we are extremely grateful to the SHBS Parent-Teacher Association and all parents for their strong support, helping us connect with such high-quality guest resources, and jointly supporting the growth of our students!
