During the 2024 SHBS Orientation Camp, students have the opportunity to participate in various forms of fun English classes. These courses not only allow students to learn in entertainment but also help them gradually adapt to an all-English teaching environment. Through these colorful activities, teachers can better understand the English level of students, thereby more targetedly helping them improve their language skills.
According to the students' English abilities, the school divided the students into four groups, each taught by different foreign teachers. Teachers carefully designed classroom content suitable for the level of students in each group, using differentiated teaching methods to ensure that each student can progress at their own learning pace. In addition, each group is also equipped with a class teacher who observes the students' classroom performance throughout the process, deeply understands the students' learning situation, in order to provide more personalized guidance in future teaching.
In the fun English classes, students participated in many lively and interesting learning activities, which not only improved their English expression ability but also promoted interaction and cooperation among them. In this relaxed and happy atmosphere, students are more willing to communicate in English, which has accelerated their adaptation to an all-English environment.
In the classroom, students improved their English reading ability by in-depth reading and analysis of articles. They actively spoke in the discussion, expressing their own views, which not only trained their language expression ability but also cultivated their critical thinking ability.
Another interesting activity is the spelling challenge, where students need to re-spell the scrambled English words into the correct words. This activity requires students to discuss with each other, fully mobilize their vocabulary memory, and also allows teachers to assess students' mastery of vocabulary and their thinking agility.
The egg protection activity has also sparked everyone's enthusiasm. Students need to use limited materials to make a cushioning device to ensure that the eggs dropped from a high place are not broken. This activity not only tests their hands-on ability and creativity but also cultivates the spirit of teamwork. Students have established deeper tacit understanding and trust in their joint efforts.
In addition, the activity of imitating animal sounds for puzzles is also full of fun. Students are assigned to different animal roles and can only communicate by imitating the sounds of the animals to complete the puzzle task. This innovative way of communication allows students to learn cooperation in laughter, and the team's tacit understanding is also further improved in this fun activity.
The last activity is the lyric recombination challenge. The teacher breaks the lyrics of the English song into short phrases, and students need to rearrange these sentences after listening to the original version of the song to form the complete lyrics. This activity is both interesting and challenging, not only training students' English listening, but also allowing them to understand the structure and expression of English songs more deeply.
Through these diverse and fun English classes, students have greatly improved their English ability in a relaxed and happy atmosphere, and have also enhanced their teamwork and creativity. This experience has laid a solid foundation for their next learning, enabling them to face future challenges more confidently.
