Editor's Note:

In the 2024 SHBS Orientation Camp, we have meticulously planned a series of featured course experiences, aimed at providing students with an understanding and exploration of different courses within a short period. Whether it’s experiencing the power of teamwork through rowing, uncovering the mysteries of DNA in the biology lab, or feeling the fluidity of beauty in artistic creation, these courses are designed to inspire students' potential, expand their professional skills, and enhance their academic literacy. Let’s take a look at how these courses open new doors for students.

赛艇 · Rowing

The SHBS campus is situated on the shores of Lake Dayan, featuring an independent rowing dock, which provides convenience for students' water sports activities. In the intense summer heat, the afternoon sun blazed even hotter. After learning the basic rowing techniques under the guidance of the coach, the students excitedly and nervously approached the shore, took off their shoes, and carefully stepped onto the rowing boats. Following the teacher's instructions, they adjusted the position of the oars and began their on-water experience. Despite the scorching summer heat and the calm, waveless lake, the students maintained high enthusiasm, gradually synchronizing their strokes to the rhythm of "One, two, one." Upon returning to the dock, though drenched in sweat, they felt the power of teamwork and the joy that rowing brought.

高尔夫 · Golf

Golf training is very interesting. During the golf training session, the coaches first introduced the students to the techniques of playing golf, then allowed each student to experience it individually. Throughout the class, students learned two types of shots: chipping and putting. The coaches were very patient, offering tips and guidance from time to time. Whenever a student made a successful shot, they would cheer and applaud; if a student missed, they encouraged them not to be discouraged and to keep trying. In this relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, students not only learned golf's striking techniques but also how to maintain a positive attitude when facing challenges.

艺术 · Art

In the Art Double Excellence course, the teacher led the students to experience the fluidity and uniqueness characteristic of art. Under the teacher's guidance, the students explored the process of creating ceramic works using "bubble glaze." They used straws to blow bubbles out of the glaze, then let the bubbles leave colorful imprints on the plates. As the bubbles burst, each plate became unique and distinctive, allowing the students to feel the joy of unrestrained creation and the unique charm of art.

音乐 · Music

Walking into the Music classroom, various musical instruments came into view, and the fully equipped facilities were a pleasant surprise. The teacher asked the students about their musical backgrounds, discovering both those with deep foundations and newcomers. The teacher not only introduced the instruments but also played music pieces created by senior students, sparking everyone’s interest. During the course, students with a foundation were encouraged to learn advanced courses like music production, while beginners started learning instruments under the teacher's guidance. Through vocal and auditory training, students experienced the charm of music in a melodious environment.

生物 · Biology

In the biology experience course, the teacher introduced DNA to the students and guided them through the experiment, using various chemical reagents to extract and present their own DNA. After donning specialized lab coats and medical gloves, the students, both nervous and excited, carefully followed the step-by-step instructions under the teacher's detailed guidance. In the end, when each student's DNA was revealed, they placed it into a specially made bracelet to carry with them. Through this experiment, students not only gained a more comprehensive understanding of DNA but also developed a better understanding of themselves.

SRCC超级机器人 · SRCC Super Robots

At the beginning of the class, the teacher first played a video about robot competitions and then provided detailed information about these competitions to the students. Following that, senior students demonstrated the operation of the robots to the class. Under the guidance of the teacher and senior students, the students successfully controlled the robots and completed tasks such as ring tossing and hanging upside down. Additionally, a senior student introduced the Robotics Club to the class, inviting all students interested in robotics to join. This class gave students the opportunity to get hands-on experience with programming and robot operation, allowing them to feel its allure.
