School Outing

On June 6th, the teachers and students of SHBS went to Happy Valley and spent a happy day there. Though this much-anticipated “spring outing day” for this semester had been delayed to the early summer, students had great fun because the weather was pleasant and the temperature was mild. Besides, few other tourists were visiting the park, so there was hardly any need for us to queue up for those popular rides. Students thoroughly enjoyed and relaxed themselves.

We interviewed several students randomly, so let’s listen to what they thought of this outing.

Having taken one after another exciting rides, I came to find that I was exhausted. Where there was still ten minutes walk to the scooter rental spot, we lined up at "30 Degrees North" with my remaining energy. I had thought I was just to watch a 4D movie in a theater, but after all were seated and the lights were off, I realized that I was being lifted farther and farther away from the ground. After the lights were on again, I found that I was at least several stories above the ground. The fear brought by the height made me awake from the "immersive" experience in front of me, and my eyes couldn't stop looking downwards. When all this was over several minutes later, I was so scared that I could hardly stand on my feet on the ground.

Just then, I thought of renting a scooter. After walking for a while, we finally arrived at the rental spot. My partner and I rented a scooter as fast as we could and rushed as fast as we could to our next destination. We rented two scooters and raced against each other to get to the finish line first. When we passed a bridge, a crowd of people made us slow down. I turned my head and found that even a passing six-year-old kid was walking faster than we did. After getting off the bridge, I sped up immediately, though the scooter was still not running as fast as I expected. Then I realized that 60RMB for a half-an-hour scooter ride was a sky-high price! No wonder they say, "Time is money"! Nevertheless, overall speaking, the spring outing day was a worthwhile experience.

Three years had passed, and I finally had a chance to take a spring outing with our school to Shanghai Happy Valley. After entering the park, I found that there were few people inside, so there was no need to queue up for the rides.

The first ride I took was the "Wooden Dragon" roller coaster. It was the first time I was brave enough to ride a roller coaster with my eyes closed throughout the ride. I was very scared when I got seated in the compartment, so I had to quietly feel the impact of the acceleration of gravity. I felt sick when I came down, and my waist hurt. In order to conquer my fear with something more fearsome, I took the "Top Mighty" roller coaster, and also closed my eyes all the time, because it was too scaring! However, this time I didn’t feel so bad, at least my waist didn’t hurt! After taking two exciting rides, I also tried the bumper car, the haunted house... How time flew! At 3pm, everyone gathered at the gate of the park for the end of a happy day. For me, it was a self-break through experience.

Today we came to Happy Valley for an outing! My first stop upon entry was the famous "Wooden Dragon" roller coaster. While I rode on the roller coaster, I kept my eyes closed for a long time because of the feeling of weightlessness and the crunch of wood. Hardly had I fully come to myself when I was dragged to the haunted house for a visit. Only three among the five of had the guts to enter the house. The visit to the house ended up with them “crawling” of it screaming. Finally, we challenged the "Top Mighty" roller coaster and got off on our knees again. Happy time always went by fast. At the end of the outing day, we got on the bus going back to school.

We had our long-awaited spring outing. Led by our teachers, we walked into Happy Valley happily and excitedly. On entering the gate, we saw a band coming towards us. In front of us was a long street with colorful stripes hanging over it. On both sides of the street, water mists were being sprayed slowly from time to time, bringing people a little coolness. There are seven areas in the park: Hurricane Bay, Gold Mine Town, Ant Kingdom, Shangri-La, Shanghai Bund, Happy Hour and Port Sunshine. I was most deeply impressed by the Arctic Adventure, which was a shooting game. Players may score points by shooting at figures. For people who are afraid of roller coasters, those games can bring them a different kind of fun.

Teachers and students spent a happy day in the amusement park so that they relaxed themselves by taking a break from their heavy work, and they furthered their understanding of each other and strengthened the connections among them as well.
