On April 28, 2023, SHBS observed the grand opening of its sports day. The weather cleared up, and the bright sunshine added to the liveliness of the sports day.

Opening & March-in Ceremony

Before the opening ceremony started, the representatives of athletes and referees made speeches respectively, extolling sportsmanship.

Teachers who are usually serious danced happily in the sunshine. Each HR class presented its unique march-in performance: Divided into several groups, students from Pre-high class 1 & 2 worked together to make a good start for the whole march-in ceremony. "Shake It Up" brought by Pre-high class 3 also caused quite a stir among the audience, winning a burst of applause. All 10th graders worked together and performed a series of dances in different styles. They danced in such neat and coordinated movements that the audience applauded all the time for their enthusiasm and good team spirit. 11th and 12th graders also brought popular dances in their childhood, full of vigor and vitality, pushing the performances to a new high.

Finally, Principal Bowen Chen gave us his opening speech. The sports meeting kicked off with a loud gong.

Track Events

Hearing the starting gun in the hot sun, all athletes tried their best to run on the red tracks with sweat dripping down. The audience were impressed by the speed at which Jared Lin, from the boys’ group and Olivia Wang, from the girls’ group ran. Tom Wei and Sean Xu, two seniors, attracted the eyes of the audience by running with their bare feet on the track, adding some more legendary splendor to their high school years. Those who signed up for long-distance race exhausted all their strength, to get to the finish line. During the 50-meter head-on relay race, each athlete did their utmost for the honor of their grade. Even though one or two of them fell down on the track, they got up immediately and kept dashing. Each athlete went all out for their common goal without leaving any regret.

Sweating heavily in the hot sun, athletes spared no efforts to compete in events such as rope jumping, Standing long jump, sit-up and spot shot. Professional measuring tools and counters ensured that the results were accurate and fair. During the relay race on rowing machines, athletes from the Rowing Double Excellence Program impressed the audience with their excellent performance, making the audience cheer loudly for them. No matter how their results were, all the athletes tried their best during the competitions, leaving their dreams and sweat on the sport ground.

On this sports day, we saw the best performances given by all homerooms, and realized how important unity is. Young and energetic students competed confidently on the sports ground, and they looked as if they were the rising sun, full of enthusiasm and vitality. Let’s strive to make glorious achievements.
