In the inaugural CAS activity of the new semester at SHBS, our school had the honor of inviting Ms. Yu, Co-Secretary General of the Fosun Foundation, to deliver an insightful public service lecture. This event not only delved into the essence of public service but also provided students with practical guidance for participating in philanthropic activities. Following this, Ms. Zhu, the project leader of the Fosun Foundation's Infinite Visionary Program, introduced the highly anticipated "Infinite Visionary Award."

In 2024, the Fosun Foundation launched the "Visionary Campus Public Welfare Alliance," with Hongrun Boyuan School as one of the nine partner schools. The alliance aims to share public welfare resources, provide professional guidance, and collaboratively promote the professional development of student public welfare activities. It also supports students in practicing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through public welfare projects.

Exploring Public service: Distinctions Between Charity and Public service

At the beginning of the lecture, Secretary General Yu guided students to reflect on the core question, "What is public service?" Through interactive discussions, students freely expressed their different perspectives on the distinctions between public service and charity. Secretary General Yu further clarified these differences and utilized a series of matching exercises to enhance the understanding of these concepts among both students and faculty members. Subsequently, an anonymous real-world case was presented, revealing the potential negative impacts of charitable actions in certain contexts, prompting profound reflections on the essence of public service.

Interpreting Public service Actions: Connecting to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In the second part of the lecture, Secretary General Yu led students in analyzing public service cases, such as the "2024 Infinite Visionaries Award" and the "J&E Dream Classroom," to gain deeper insights into the diversity and practical impact of public service projects. These cases not only ignited students' enthusiasm for public service but also provided practical references for their involvement.

Summarizing Models: The Multidimensional Forms of Public service

Secretary General Yu categorized public service actions into four models: light public service, project-based public service, linked public service, and investment in public service. Through this explanation, students recognized that public service is not a singular form but can be realized through various avenues to achieve social value. This summary provided students with a clear action framework, aiding them in planning their future participation in public service.

Infinite Visionaries Award: Encouraging Innovation and Excellence in the Younger Generation

At the end of the event, Ms. Zhu, project leader of the Fosun Foundation's Infinite Visionary Program, provided detailed information about the "Infinite VisionariesAward" for students interested in public service. This award aims to support and encourage young individuals to pursue innovation and excellence in the field of public service, focusing on discovering and promoting promising philanthropic projects. Through this award, young people can not only receive financial support but also exert greater influence in the realm of social responsibility.

Conclusion: The Journey of Public service Begins with Just a Simple Action

This public service lecture CAS activity not only provided students with rich theoretical knowledge but also stimulated their enthusiasm and reflection on public service through practical cases and interactive discussions. Secretary Yu's engaging presentation opened the door to the world of public service, while the introduction of the "Infinite Visionaries Award" offered valuable opportunities for aspiring young philanthropists. It is believed that in the future, more students will dedicate themselves to public service, bringing positive changes to society.
