This article summarizes the department’s work through initiatives such as the Language and Culture Festival, Academic Salon, Reading Clubs, Poetry Recitation, and Chinese Education Symposiums.

CAS Chinese Language and Culture Festival: Revisiting the Silk Road and Showcasing the Charm of "Peace and Development" in Chinese Culture

The festival’s theme, "Revisiting the Silk Road," featured an immersive play where students planned and performed a Silk Road story. Teachers provided guidance, while students handled scripts, roles, stage design, and costumes. The performance received enthusiastic applause from teachers and peers, highlighting the depth and unique charm of Chinese culture.

This activity not only enhanced students' organizational and teamwork skills but also deepened their understanding of the profound essence of Chinese culture’s "Peace and Development." It also provided an excellent opportunity to showcase Chinese teaching achievements and enrich campus culture.

CAS SHBS Academic Salon: Integrating Games with Subjects to Spark Interest in Interdisciplinary Learning

The SHBS Academic Salon, a collaborative platform with the Science and Arts departments, focused this year on "Game and Subject Integration." Teachers from various disciplines were invited to guide discussions on incorporating interdisciplinary elements into games to spark students' interest and initiative in learning.

In the salon, students explored interdisciplinary learning through games. Moving forward, we will continue to innovate and implement teaching models that integrate games with subjects, offering students a richer and more diverse learning experience.

Campus Chinese Reading Club: Black Myth Wukong—Rereading the Classic Journey to the West to Explore the Modern Value of Literary Classics

In collaboration with the library, the Chinese Reading Club focused on the theme "Black Myth Wukong—Rereading the Literary Classic Journey to the West," delving into its profound meanings. Students and teachers engaged enthusiastically, sharing unique perspectives on this classic work while discussing its plot, characters, and philosophical insights. This activity deepened students’ understanding of Journey to the West and inspired a greater appreciation and sense of responsibility for preserving traditional Chinese culture.

Online Classics Reading Club: Zi Jin, Chun Xuan, and Xing Tan Reading Clubs—Building a Diverse Platform for Sharing Literary Classics

The Zi Jin, Chun Xuan, and Xing Tan Reading Clubs, along with student, parent, and teacher classics reading sessions, have formed a diverse platform offering abundant resources and a space for exchange. At these events, one student’s mother shared her insights on Dream of the Red Chamber, analyzing the charm of this literary masterpiece through its characters, plot, and themes. Another student’s mother shared her reflections on Khalil Gibran’s poetry, offering a literary perspective on its profound philosophy and lyrical beauty. These contributions expanded participants’ reading horizons and fostered meaningful discussions and connections. We will continue to enhance and deliver high-quality reading activities.

Off-campus Cultural Collaboration: Embracing The Analects and Experiencing the Power of Chinese Classics

In collaboration with external cultural organizations, we hosted the "Embracing The Analects: Cultural China" event on campus. During the activity, teachers and students recited The Analects together, experiencing the power of this classic. Through these readings, students not only appreciated the wisdom of ancient sages but also strengthened their cultural confidence and national pride.

This event provided an excellent opportunity for collaboration with external cultural institutions and demonstrated the unique value and influence of traditional culture in modern society. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen partnerships and promote the inheritance and development of Chinese culture on campus.

We successfully hosted the "Spreading Chinese Elegance Worldwide" Classical Poetry Recitation. Foreign teachers were also invited to participate, sharing in the charm of Chinese culture.

The recitation provided a platform for students to showcase their talents while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture’s essence and richness. Through the participation and interaction of both Chinese and foreign teachers, the global influence and appeal of Chinese culture became evident. We will continue to hold similar events in the future to introduce and promote Chinese culture to a wider audience.

Chinese Reading Instruction Seminar: Exploring New Formats with a Water Margin  Reading Seminar

We organized a Water Margin seminar where ninth-grade students collaborated in groups to write and peer-review essays. Teachers from various departments were invited to provide on-site guidance and feedback.

This seminar enhanced students’ writing and critical thinking skills while deepening their understanding of Water Margin. The involvement of teachers from different subjects also enriched the variety of teaching resources and perspectives. In the future, we will continue to host similar reading seminars, offering students more opportunities to showcase their talents and develop their skills, while exploring ways to share teaching resources with the community staff.
