Within the vibrant campus, the library is a beloved place for many students. Here, students can freely sit down to read and study, experiencing the joy that books bring. The librarian, Ms. Jenny, and the library volunteer stars have planned a series of diverse activities, creating a warm and creative platform for learning and communication. This semester, the library organized a variety of activities to promote student reading, enhance cultural literacy, and support mental well-being, achieving remarkable results. Below is a detailed summary of the library’s work this semester:

01

English Corner Activities

The library hosted an English Corner every Monday, with foreign teachers and English teachers actively participating and interacting with students. Activities included reading Nimona together and playing games like Jenga, UNO, and Operation to enhance students’ speaking skills. These activities not only improved students’ English proficiency but also strengthened their teamwork and social skills. In a relaxed and enjoyable environment, students gradually overcame their hesitation to speak English, achieving more natural and fluent oral expression.

02

Chinese Reading Club

The library hosted a monthly Chinese Reading Club in collaboration with Chinese teacher Wu Rui, focusing on reading The Analects. Under the guidance of Wu Rui and William Yu, students also created an original script, currently untitled, depicting the conflict between Confucianism and Mohism through the stories of two pairs of protagonists. This activity not only enhanced students’ literary appreciation but also fostered their creativity and critical thinking. Through role-playing and scriptwriting, students gained a deeper understanding of Confucian and Mohist philosophies, strengthening their interest in and connection to traditional culture.

03

Public Welfare Activities

In collaboration with Shanghai Qi Lu Academy, the library successfully hosted the 8th "Embracing The Analects: Cultural China" public welfare event. Aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture, the event featured lectures, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, attracting numerous students, teachers, and parents. During the event, students not only listened to expert explanations but also experienced the charm of traditional culture through interactive activities, fostering their appreciation and awareness of cultural heritage.

04

Mental Health Education

The library collaborated with psychology teacher Joon and counseling instructor Wu Ruicheng to organize activities based on The Wind in the Willows Goes to the Therapist. Students conducted street interviews to identify psychological modes: Parent Ego, Adult Ego, or Child Ego. Interviews with Joon, Xie Bo, and Zhu Yi provided additional insights for students. This activity significantly improved students’ self-awareness, helping them adjust their mental states in different situations and better tackle life’s challenges.

05

School-wide Classic Reading Activity

In collaboration with Wu Rui, the library organized a school-wide classic reading activity involving students, teachers, and parents. Reflections were shared online via WeChat, such as Shen Zetao’s mother sharing insights on Dream of the Red Chamber and Gu Mingrui’s mother discussing Khalil Gibran’s To Children. These activities fostered joint reading among families and enriched cultural literacy across the school community. The online sharing broadened students’ perspectives and sparked their interest in reading.

Impact and Achievements

Through this semester’s activities, the library enriched students’ extracurricular lives while enhancing their reading interest and cultural literacy. Students demonstrated great enthusiasm and creativity in their participation, solidifying the library’s role as a cultural hub on campus. Additionally, mental health education activities significantly improved students’ self-awareness and emotional management, laying a strong foundation for their holistic development.
