On December 9, 2024, SHBS hosted a highly anticipated annual dubbing show. This event not only showcased the outstanding language skills and performance talents of the students but also paid deep respect to the behind-the scenes dubbing actors who bring classic films and animations to life. The show attracted many teachers and students to participate together, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere on the scene.
The dubbing show was hosted by Bruce and Evony, who added a unique vitality to the entire competition with their fluent switching between Chinese and English and humorous interactions. After their enthusiastic opening speech, the dubbing competition officially began.
During the competition, the performances of the participating students were remarkable. They brought a diverse range of dubbing works to the live audience. Harrison injected vitality into a classic scene from "PV Blackmyth wukong release date trailer" with his full emotions and solid vocal skills. Jack successfully conveyed the deep friendship and passionate emotions in "Naruto" through excellent portrayal of the characters.
Among the many works, the dubbing of the circular Mercury scene from "Travelling Stardust" by Joe garnered much attention. Known for its retro mysterious style, Joe vividly depicted the fantastical world of circular Mercury with delicate voice, earning rounds of applause from the audience. Joseph and Tom collaborated to voice "Paddington Bear", portraying the adventurous story of this brave yet clumsy bear through their vocal performances, immersing the audience in this heartwarming and humorous classic.
Celestine's performance was noteworthy of bringing a youthful and humorous vibe to the audience through the rendition of "Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions:Heart Throb" vividly portraying the youthful excitement and funny moments of the characters. Kai and Mark chose another segment from "Back to the Future: 1999" called "First Day at Work", skillfully depicting the nervousness and excitement of characters entering the workplace, captivating the audience with their nuanced emotional portrayals.
The group performances became a major highlight of the competition. The collaboration of Eason, Alex, Lincoin, Steven, Jason, Jeffery, Kostin, and Harrison on "Great Talent" deeply moved the audience. This work told a touching story about dreams and perseverance, with the participants perfectly conveying the characters' dedication to their craft and love for life through their voices.
Another group work, "Pleasant Goat and Big Wolf: It's All Your Fault", brought a light-hearted and joyful atmosphere to the competition. Through their infectious voices, Octanal, Martin, Steve, Jimmy and Sam vividly recreated the fun duels from the animation, evoking childhood memories among the audience. "Annoying Orange", performed by Alex, Jason, Lincoin, Steven, Jeffery, and Kostin, brought the mischievous and clever image of the orange to life in a humorous and witty way, allowing the audience to feel the charm of voices amidst laughter.
Melinda and Odelette's "We are like twins" depicted the warmth of family affection with deep, tender expressions, deeply touching the hearts of the audience. In the dubbing performance of "Harry Potter", Lucas, Stephanie and Ella reproduced the magical adventures of Hogwarts with infectious voices, making the audience feel as if they were there, experiencing Harry's bravery and growth once again.
As the competition drew to a close, hosts Bruce and Evony expressed that the significance of this dubbing competition lies not only in showcasing the talents of the participants but also in paying tribute to the dubbing actors who silently breathe life into film and television productions. Through their voices, they give characters life and fill stories with emotion and warmth.
